The first of the winter meetings of Fermanagh Grassland Club take place next Tuesday evening, October 11 when they host an open meeting sponsored by the Vaughan Trust in the Lisgoole Suite of the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen.
The meeting will be addressed by Conail Keown, Programme Adviser with Dairylink Ireland on “Where now in a quota free Europe?”
Conail(pictured right) previously worked as a dairy adviser with CAFRE and in his role with Dairylink Ireland, he works with selected farmers both north and south of the border.
Dairylink Ireland was established two years ago to examine dairy farmers in both Northern Ireland and the Republic.
It was set up with the involvement of a number of organisations including both CAFRE in Northern Ireland and Teagasc in the Republic, as well as AFBI and a number of commercial organisations.
The focus of the programme is to optimise the use of farm resources for profitable milk production in an environment without EU quotas.
The programme draws on farmer experience and highlights the use of benchmarking and measurement of performance to guide decision making in farm management.
Earlier this year, Dairylink Ireland held a series of farm walks on farms in Tyrone, Down and Cavan.
Recently, Fermanagh Grassland Club held their summer farm walk on one of these farms, Kevin McGrade’s, of Dromore, Co. Tyrone.
