Wool, one of the most natural products around can be transformed into many colours and designs, as this class demonstrates.
Spinning, weaving, felting, knitting and crochet work are all demonstrated and taught during the class held twice a month in Rossorry Church Hall, near Enniskillen, affectionately known in the class as the Wool Shed.
One of the inspirations behind the class is Elaina Kelly-Woods, who has been spinning wool from fleeces shorn from her own sheep for about four years now. Joining her is Bridget Maguire from Enniskillen who has been spinning for around 15 years as well as a number of people from all over the county from Derrygonnelly, Kesh, Irvinestown, Belcoo and Enniskillen.
Elaina explained that the class, held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, can involve all fibres but predominantly wool because it is more commonly available.
She says she enjoys working with it because it is “peaceful and restful.”
Many attending the class will weave tapestry, using a frame and in different styles, others might work with felt, knitting or crochet. Elaina has a modern twist on producing felt, using an electric sander to work the wetted wool.
The result after weeks of work will be wall hangings and garments.
