A TEENAGER detected by police speeding at 90mph in the Lack area has had his driving licence revoked.

Warren Bratton (18), of Main Street, Lack, was charged with driving at excess speed in a 60mph limit on August 18, 2016.

Bratton entered a guilty plea when he appeared before Fermanagh Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

The court heard that, on the morning of August 18, police conducting speed detection duties in Lack village recorded a Volkswagen Golf being driven by the defendant travelling at 90mph along the Ederney Road.

Defending solicitor, Niall Bogue, conceded that his client couldn’t offer any particular explanation for his speed, but added that he had just received his exam results and they were not the grades he had wanted.

The solicitor said that Bratton had been on an errand for his grandmother and there had been “no urgency whatsoever”.

“His mind was not there due to external circumstances,” Mr Bogue said.

District judge, Nigel Broderick, observed that he was clearly concerned about the “very high” speed in the case.

The judge said that speed was a contributing factor in a lot of the road accidents that occurred in Fermanagh.

Mr Broderick told the court that, in his view, it would be a “useful exercise” for the defendant to resit his driving test and revoked his licence.

He imposed a £100 fine and endorsed Bratton’s driving licence with six penalty points.
