The Delaney Suite at Mahon’s Hotel, Irvinestown was alive with song and dance on Thursday afternoon as participants in an over 50s programme were treated to a great day out.
The theme of the project delivering the programme, “Live Wise Age Well” is part of a national scheme, “Drinkwise Age Well” and empowers older people by providing them with coping skills to improve their opportunities with social inclusion and better coping mechanisms.
This programme has been running throughout Fermanagh and Tyrone at key locations for a number of months, delivered by the ARC Healthy Living Centre, Irvinestown. These locations included Belcoo, Enniskillen, Omagh, Eskra and Irvinestown.
One of the aims of the programme is to bring people identified in the project, “Socially together” and trying to help them develop new skills so they are not socially isolated.
The participants were brought by coach from their relevant areas and served tea and scones .
A selection of displays and demonstrations were staged for all to enjoy. These included a nail bar, massage, hairdressing, a demonstration on wicker craft and flower arranging.
In the afternoon, a jive dance lesson was given to all attending with music throughout the afternoon played by local artistes, Gerry Quinn and Seamus Doris.
According to the organisers, the feedback from participants was very encouraging with many saying it was a throwback to the old style dances.
