A 53-YEAR-OLD man accused of causing the death of a motorcyclist by driving carelessly along the A4 Belfast Road around two years ago has been returned for trial.

The motorcyclist, 48-year-old Brian Bernard Peter Lynch, from the Enniskillen area, died in hospital after he was involved in a road traffic collision on the A4 road, between Lisbellaw and Tamlaght, on November 15, 2014.

Joseph Keenan, of Lawnakilla Park, Enniskillen, is charged with causing the death of Mr Lynch by driving without due care and attention on the A4 Belfast Road.

The single charge was read out to Mr Keenan when he appeared before Fermanagh Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

A Public Prosecution Service (PPS) representative told the court that, based on the papers submitted, the defendant had a case to answer.

While there was no contrary submission at this stage from defence solicitor Grainne Mulligan, she added that the charge was not formally conceded.

District judge, Nigel Broderick, observed that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.

Mr Keenan then declined to answer the charge at this stage. He further declined to give evidence himself, call any witnesses or tender a written statement of a witness.

The district judge released him on his own bail of £500 to appear before Dungannon Crown Court for arraignment on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.
