BOXING ace Carl Frampton surprised staff at Letterbreen Midway Spar on Monday when he was spotted pottering around the aisles of the shop.

Fresh from purchasing a brand new Range Rover from Donnelly Brothers in Dungannon, the former two-weight world champion popped in to buy some sandwiches for him and his wife Christine.

It was a far cry from the glittering lights of the Las Vegas strip where hundreds of Northern Irish fans cheered on the 29-year-old ‘Jackal’ in his re-match with Mexican boxer Leo Santa-Cruz last month.

Frampton was gracious in defeat on that occasion and this week has been tweeting photos of himself and Mrs. Frampton celebrating Valentine’s Day at Ashford Castle, County Mayo.

“He was really lovely,” said Makayla Smith, who works in Letterbreen Spar.

“My partner is a big Frampton fan so I recognised him straight away. My partner was a wee bit raging when he heard that I’d met him!”

She added: “We asked him: ‘Have we a celebrity in the store today?’ and he said: ‘I don’t know about that.’ He asked for the sandwiches and then headed off in a Range Rover.”

Makayla was spot on when she guessed: “Maybe he was heading south to take his wife away for Valentines!”
