DEMOCRATIC Unionist Maurice Morrow has dismissed his party’s critics, accusing the “liberal left” of “raining down fire and brimstone on you.”
And he has refused to reveal who bankrolled the DUP’s pro-Brexit campaign in England last year.
“It seems to be if you are anti Europe you are up for special scrutiny. Where did the Remain campaign get their money? Why doesn’t the media ask where they got their millions of pounds?”
When it was put to him that the issue is about transparency, Lord Morrow said: “We are transparent, we have revealed it to the electoral commission.”
Asked why the DUP cannot release the details to the public, he replied: “Let the electoral commission reveal it to the public, that’s their role.”
When asked about the views of some, including those who support same sex marriage and their concerns over his party’s repeated attempts at blocking it, Lord Morrow said: “The DUP speaks for the majority of people in Northern Ireland. When democracy works against these people who are from the liberal left they become intolerant of other views.”
“People who are voting for Sinn Fein are those who have shown at best a reluctance to make Northern Ireland a prosperous society,” he added.
Lord Morrow will contest the election with Arlene Foster.
