Cork 1-14

Fermanagh 0-09

Fermanagh suffered a second successive defeat in NFL Division Two as they went down 1-14 to 0-09 to Cork in Pairc Ui Rinn.

In truth, Cork were in control throughout, Niall Coakley's first half goal helping to a six point half time lead and although Fermanagh did improve in the second half, they never really looked likely to trouble the home side.

Fermanagh struggled for scores throughout, kicking eight wides during the first half while Cork were much less wasteful as they gained the upperhand.

The home side started brightly and with 15 minutes on the clock they lead 0-04 to 0-01.

Paul Kerrigan was a threat in the Rebels attack, rattling over two early points which sandwiched a Tomas Corrigan effort for Fermanagh while Coakley and John O'Rourke also tagged on points.

Two fine points from Sean Quigley, one from a free and one from a 45, saw Fermanagh reduce the deficit back to a point, 0-04 to 0-03, but Donncha O'Connor replied with a tidy point from the left for Cork before Coakley swooped for the goal.

O'Connor and Kerrigan combined with Kerrigan feeding the ball across the goal for Coakley to finish from close range.

Coakley (free) and Kerrigan stretched the gap out to seven before an Eddie Courtney point at the end of the half left it a six point game at the interval.

Brian O'Driscoll landed the first point of the second half before Quigley answered with a point from a free and another from play.

On too many occasions though Fermanagh lost their way in the final third of the pitch and with the impressive Coakley and Luke Connolly on target at the other end it put the Rebels into a 1-10 to 0-06 lead.

Indeed, Thomas Treacy prevented it being any worse as he saved from Kerrigan before Quigley notched his fifth point of the contest to keep Fermanagh within six points.

Cork though were always able to keep the scoreboard ticking over with Coakley again registering although Fermanagh replied to this with points from the returning Ryan Jones and Aidan Breen.

Breen's effort though was to be Fermanagh's last score and with Kerrigan, O'Driscoll and Donal Og Hodnett firing over points, Cork ran out eight point winners.
