TEN year old Amy Mayock is still “buzzing” after following through on her decision to get her hair cut in aid of Little Princess Trust, the charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.
The St Macartan’s Aghadrumsee pupil was watching a programme about the charity’s 10th anniversary when she decided she wanted to help.
“Amy is very caring and she takes things on board,” explained her mother Lisa. “She commented that the children must be sad when they lose their hair and maybe she could make them happy by giving them her hair.”
After growing her hair for more than a year, Amy’s mum allowed her to go ahead with the process. “I thought she might forget about it but she asked me again so I said: ‘OK’,” said Lisa.
Amy’s hairdresser in Clones collected sponsorship on her behalf, amounting to £750. On the day itself, it was mum who was called upon to cut Amy’s hair. Lisa concluded: “She said she wouldn’t go through with it unless I cut it! I was so scared but she looks lovely and she’s still buzzing from the experience.”
