Gardaí in Monaghan are investigating alleged misappropriation of funds belonging to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Clogher, including the suspected theft of funds from a safe in St. Macartan’s Cathedral.

A man has been questioned and a file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
A spokesman from An Garda Síochána told The Impartial Reporter: "We can confirm that a man was recently arrested and questioned in relation to this investigation.  

"The Garda Investigation into this matter relates to suspected thefts from a safe in St. Macartan's Cathedral in Monaghan Town.

"The Garda investigation is still ongoing and when the Investigation is concluded, the file will be sent to the DPP for relevant directions."
