Meath 3-15 Fermanagh 0-06 Fermanagh will need to get a result from their final league game against Derry at Brewster Park next Sunday if they are to have any chance of avoiding relegation to Division Three.

And it will take a massive improvement on today’s dismal performance against Meath with Pete McGrath’s side suffering a heavy defeat in Navan to the Royals.

Fermanagh’s display was littered with errors and they were second best all over the park to an impressive Meath side who took control in the second quarter and never looked back.

A Donal Lenihan penalty in the 15th minute put Meath in front for the first time and when Bryan McMahon added a second goal eight minutes later it had the home side in firm control.

Eight points divided the sides at the break and Meath continued to control things in the second half with Lenihan grabbing his second goal as the Royals eased to victory.

Fermanagh, with the breeze at their backs in the first half, did make a good start as Sean Quigley landed a free and Ryan Lyons slotted over from play.

Indeed, Fermanagh had a great goal chance when Aidan Breen bundled his way through but the Tempo man fired wide and from this point Meath started to get the upperhand while Fermanagh were guilty of turning over possession cheaply time and again.

Graham Reilly registered the Royals first score and this was followed by their first goal of the game.

Cillian O'Sullivan, who made a massive impact on his early introduction for the injured Alan Forde, was fouled by Kane Connor as he attempted to get a shot in on goal and Lenihan converted the resultant penalty.

Lenihan and Bryan Menton tagged on further scores for Meath before they grabbed their second goal of the contest through Bryan McMahon.

McMahon turned sharply and left his marker for dead before blasting past Chris Snow to make it 2-03 to 0-02.

Fermanagh accounted for their first point in 22 minutes when Connor swung over an excellent effort from the right and Quigley soon added a point from a free but it was Meath who landed the final three points of the half to go in at the break with an eight point lead.

Mickey Jones received what appeared to be a very harsh black card from referee Derek O'Mahoney and James Toher tapped over the resulting free. Reilly and McMahon then fired over further points for the home side to leave it 2-06 to 0-04 at the interval.

With the breeze in their favour in the second half, Meath never looked like relinquishing their stranglehold on the contest and they quickly pushed further clear as Sean Tobin, O’Sullivan and McMahon notched points.

And with 49 minutes gone they then bagged their third goal as Lenihan beat Snow to a high hanging ball to punch to the net to make it 3-09 to 0-04.

It took Fermanagh 16 minutes into the second half to tag on a score as Lee Cullen fired over but even at this stage it was just a consolation point.

Indeed, Fermanagh only registered two points over the course of the half, Eddie Courtney lofting over a free, and over the 70 minutes the Ernemen only had three points from play.

Meath on the other hand were vibrant in attack and the scores continued to flow over the remainder of the half as James McEntee, McMahon, Tobin and O’Sullivan banged over points to leave it 3-15 to 0-06 at the finish.
