A word of thanks this morning to the many people who sent me messages, including personal cards, and those who came up to me in the street to encourage me after I spoke at the Graan Novena of Hope last week.
Father Brian D’Arcy wasn’t joking when he said, as he introduced me, that I was shaking like a leaf!
But when I got to my feet and began to speak, I realised quickly that I was among friends, and it was a privilege to share something of my journey of faith with everyone. It was an experience that I will never forget. Thank you so much to everyone who was there. The one comment that encouraged me most was from someone who said he’d lost his faith, but what I said is making him think. The crowds at the Novena this year have been unbelievable. It was, probably, Father Brian’s last one which is sad. But what a legacy he is leaving. The thousands upon thousands of people over the years who have received messages of hope include many who were probably marginalised or had lost hope.
Even that is a cause for joy.
