A 32-YEAR-OLD man charged in connection with a pipe bomb explosion in Irvinestown earlier this year has been remanded in custody.

Sean McVeigh, of Glencara Park, Letterkenny, county Donegal, is charged with possessing a pipe bomb with intent to endanger life and attempting to murder Paul Maye on January 30, 2017.

McVeigh was arrested in Londonderry this week by detectives investigating the explosion in Sally's Wood and brought before a special sitting of Omagh Magistrates Court this morning (Saturday).

Flanked by two police officers, the defendant stood up as the two charges were read out to him by the court clerk. He confirmed that he understood both.

A PSNI detective constable told the court that he believed he could connect the defendant to the charges.

Defending solicitor Martin Corrigan, meanwhile, indicated that he would be making no application for bail on behalf of his client.

District judge, Oonagh Mullan, remanded McVeigh in custody to appear before Fermanagh Magistrates Court on Monday, April 10.
