Getting married at the top of the iconic Rockerfeller centre on Fifth Avenue with the Manhattan skyline as your backdrop may sound like a scene from a movie, but that’s exactly what Lisbellaw dentist Emma Leitch did when she tied the knot with Garry Wilson last October.
The couple did not want a big wedding so they decided to elope in ‘the city that never sleeps’. Their magical day began with a ceremony in New York City Hall, with Larry, their driver as a witness. Larry then whisked them across town for photos on ‘top of the Rock’ (the Rockerfeller centre). They enjoyed lunch in Central Park’s Boathouse, followed by rowing a boat around the world-famous park. A rickshaw took the newly-weds from Central Park, down Broadway and back to their hotel on the Upper West Side.
“Neither of us wanted a big wedding and when planning it we were finding it difficult to keep numbers down, so we decided to elope to New York and then take our families away for a long weekend in Marbella to celebrate afterwards,” Emma explained.
“We got married at City Hall in New York on Wednesday, October 5, 2016. I arranged hair and makeup to be done in the hotel room on the morning of the wedding. I bought my dress a few months before from J Crew and then asked Sarah Deering to customise the dress and create my bouquet, earrings and a button hole for Gary.
“After the ceremony, the car took us with Larry to The Rockefeller Centre where we had some amazing photos taken and got priority access to the top. We got lots of cheers from the staff and tourists, everyone was so nice to us! From there we went to Central Park for more photos and had lunch in the Boathouse Restaurant. Gary then rowed us in a boat on the lake in Central Park for an hour.” She concludes: “It was an amazing day from start to finish and we wouldn’t change a thing. We are now Mr. and Mrs. Wilson!”
