LETTERBREEN woman, Laura Elliott, stepped out in style at the weekend to bring home the ‘Most Stylish Lady’ award at the Irish Grand National Day during Fairyhouse Festival.
The 26-year-old dentist was a lady in red for the day, attending the races with fiancé, Damien.
Wearing a dress from Coast, shoes from Debenhams, a bag by Jenny Packham and hat by Jennifer Wrynne, she caught the eye of judge,TV presenter Jenny Buckley, who picked her as the overall winner.
As Laura explains, this wasn’t her first step into the ‘best dressed at the races’ world.
“I first entered a ladies day competition at Sligo racecourse in 2015 and I was selected as one of the top 10 best dressed ladies. I have also attended a ladies day at the Curragh racecourse.”
She describes milliner, Jennifer Wrynne as the inspiration behind her interest in taking part in ladies day.
“I first saw Jennifer Wrynne on the front cover of a national paper when she won best dressed lady at Cheltenham a couple of years ago and I started following her fashion blog. She is a very talented milliner and I love wearing her hats!
“I would certainly say I have a competitive streak when it comes to sport but when it comes to the ladies day it’s just a bit of fun and a great day out!
“I enjoy getting ready for the races and checking out what all the other ladies are wearing, what milliners designed their hats, where their outfits were bought or designed and whether they picked up a good bargain.
“ I love the fashion and the buzz at the races. Everyone has their own unique style whether it’s simple and classic or over the top and flamboyant. I get inspiration from other ladies and recognise lots of faces. It’s an excuse to get dressed up!”
And taking part was certainly worthwhile for Laura, who won a two night stay in Carton House Hotel in the Presidential suite with spa treatments and a trip to the Prosecco region of Italy near Venice.
“The first people I told were my mum and dad and they didn’t believe it,” Laura adds.
“I would definitely consider entering again.”
