ENNISKILLEN Model Primary School were recently awarded for their pastoral care at Stormont.
Representatives from the school attended a reception held in Parliament Buildings where they were recognised as worthy winners of the Derrytrasna Primary Award.
The Derrytrasna Pastoral Care Award is an award for school communities who show exceptional pastoral care for the emotional health and wellbeing of pupils and their families.
It is named after St Mary’s Primary School in Derrytrasna whose special pastoral care inspired the award. Since 2014, the number of nominations to the scheme have increased dramatically from 25 nominations in 2014 to over 350 applications for this year’s scheme.
Pastoral care in schools is about offering support to pupils’ personal needs rather than their schoolwork.
It is about meeting the personal, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of every child.
Local parents, Paul and Jayne Hughes nominated the school for the award.
They attended the event along with their children and pupils of Enniskillen Model Primary School, Caleb and Callistus Hughes.
Also in attendance at the reception event was the school’s principal, Winston Glass, along with teachers, Michelle Saunderson and Shirley Rowland.
