A 34-YEAR-OLD woman, who was stopped by police while driving, had an eight-month-old baby “unrestrained in any way” in the rear of her car, Fermanagh Magistrates Court has heard.

Sabrina Teresa Margaret O’Brien, of Oakfield Court, Enniskillen, was charged with carrying a child under 12 in the rear of her vehicle without a proper restraint, using a motor vehicle without insurance, not displaying ‘L’ plates and being an unaccompanied ‘L’ driver at Dublin Road, Breandrum, Enniskillen on November 24, 2016.

Defending solicitor, Myles McManus, entered guilty pleas on behalf of the defendant, who did not appear at the hearing.

The court heard that, at 11am, police stopped a Vauxhall Corsa being driven by the defendant. Initially, they questioned her over not having insurance.

However, as the officers were speaking to O’Brien, they observed an eight-month-old baby on a blanket in the rear of the car that was “unrestrained in any way”.

It subsequently emerged that the defendant only held a provisional driving licence.

During a police interview, O’Brien made full admissions to all the offences.

Deputy district judge Peter Prenter imposed fines totalling £400, a £15 offender levy and a six-month driving disqualification.
