Last Saturday, Lakeland Cycle Club hosted their Grand Prix on the roads around Derrygonnelly.

First off was the A3 race. Several attempts to get away from the main group were made by several riders but the fast, relatively flat route made this difficult and they were soon reeled in.

The race finished in a mass sprint which was won by Poewerhouse Sport’s Adam Ward with Lakeland’s Kieran McGrory and Conor Sprice in the bunch.

Next up was the A4 category, which contained a large contingent of Lakeland Riders. The group stayed together for most the two-lap race before visiting rider Philip Graham made a break with 2K to go.

Despite opening a considerable gap, Lakeland’s Mark McGirr quickly closed him down over the last 700m but Philip had just enough to be awarded first place in a photo finish decision.

Lakeland CC would like to thank the Tir Navar Centre in Derrygonnelly, all who helped with organisation and marshalling of the event and sponsors Donnelly Group and Roofscape for helping make the event such a success.
