COMIC creators and fans gathered in Enniskillen for the annual Comic Fest at the weekend.
The community event at Enniskillen Castle attracted considerable numbers with young fans meeting Beano artists, getting their photographs taken with costumed characters such as Wonder Woman and Judge Dredd and queuing for autographed comics and sketches from creators who work for 2000 AD and DC Comics.
Last Friday school children had the opportunity to take part in workshops with some of the guest writers and artists learning how to create comics. Then on Friday night a special event celebrating 40 Years of 2000AD took place in the Ardhowen Theatre.
Visiting Enniskillen were comic creators from all over the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, as well as Spain and Canada.
Paul Trimble, one of the event’s organisers, told this newspaper: “A great cross section of comic fans from all over Ireland attended this free community event.”
“The day finished with a charity auction for the Horizon West Children’s Hospice and limited edition t-shirts and prints marking the 2000AD’s 40th anniversary were also sold in aid of this very worthy cause,” he said.
