A FULL planning application has been submitted for the £23.4 million new building for Devenish College.
The application, submitted by the Education Authority, is for a new build post-primary school to accommodate 800 pupils, with associated sports pitches and parking provision, on Tempo Road, Enniskillen.
Principal, Simon Mowbray, said that the plans had also been lodged with Building Control.
Mr. Mowbray said: “We have spent a long number of months finalising the internal and external layouts of the school. As you can imagine it is absolutely crucial that we get the design right at this stage, especially when we are spending so much public money.”
The principal said that the proposed schedule of accommodation allowed for 30 general classrooms, complete with the latest touch screen technology and Wi-Fi access for staff and pupils.
There is also provision for six science laboratories, three technology and design workshops, eight ICT classrooms, 11 smaller ICT hubs, a drama suite, two music suites, three recording studios and a media suite.
The plans also includes two Home Economics rooms, three art rooms, a library and sixth form centre.
Meanwhile, the proposed sports provision includes a combined four court sports hall and gymnasium, a fitness suite, five tennis courts, a floodlit synthetic pitch and three grass pitches.
Mr. Mowbray added that the sports facilities and other areas of the school would be available not just for the College’s pupils, but also the wider community in Enniskillen and Fermanagh.
