The footbridge linking Erneside shopping centre with the town centre will be closed from May 29 for a period of five weeks and is planned to re-open again during the first week of July.
The reason for the closure is to carry out essential maintenance and painting to keep the bridge in use. Shopping centre manager, Jim Masterson said: “Every year the footbridge is assessed and roughly every six to seven years a bigger maintenance job will be carried out. I apologise for the inconvenience this may cause in the short term”. He acknowledged that the temporary closure would cause some disruption as a significant amount of customers use this entrance.
Mr. Masterson highlighted that after careful consideration management felt now was the best time to carry out these works.
“We are post Easter and pre the very busy trading period of July and August, the idea overall is that customers will be left with a good, clean, safe walkway.”
Customers will still be able to access the shopping centre via the main front entrance at Quay Pass road and it will be business as usual.
