FERMANAGH and Omagh District Council will drop a £375 fee for a street pavement licence, The Impartial Reporter can reveal.

It follows a campaign by an Enniskillen café owner who was warned that her street furniture could be seized if she does not obtain the special licence.

Hazel Johnston, who owns the Jolly Sandwich Bar on Darling Street, hand delivered a petition to Enniskillen Townhall yesterday (Wednesday) objecting to the legislation.

In less than a week, her petition received over 1,000 signatures.

During a meeting of the Environmental Services Committee last night Fermanagh and Omagh councillors agreed that the fee should be waived.

However, the decision must be ratified by the Council at the end of this month before it can formally take effect.

It’s understood the decision was backed unanimously by all councillors who were present at the committee meeting last night.
