ELECTRIC vehicle charging points that aren’t in regular use are to be removed after a review was carried out, a local Councillor has claimed.

Speaking at the monthly meeting of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Thomas O’Reilly said that the company with responsibility for the charging points, ecar NI, had conducted the review into usage.

He told the meeting that ecar NI had informed him that the charging point located in Fivemiletown was to be removed, as it had only been used eight times since January.

Mr. O’Reilly said that the company had told him there were two other charging points “close” to Fivemiletown, in Ballygawley and Dungannon.

The Erne East representative said that, rather than removing them, ecar NI should be looking at ways of increasing the number of charge points.

He requested that the Council contact the company over the issue.

Meanwhile, his party colleague Sheamus Greene told the meeting that some of the existing electric charging points weren’t even working.

He also claimed that people couldn’t work out how to use them as the instructions were in German.

“That’s what I’m led to believe,” Mr. Greene added.

Erne North Councillor, John Feely, said there was a charging point in Belleek that hadn’t been working since April.
