A life without limits is the mantra of the annual Michaela Foundation Summer Camp which has returned to St. Fanchea’s College for the fifth year.

Set up in memory of 27-year-old teacher Michaela McAreavey, the daughter of Tyrone Manager Mickey Harte who was murdered in January 2011 while on honeymoon in Mauritius, the camp is based on five elements that were important in Machaela’s life: fun, faith, fashion, well being and fáilte.

Michaela would be so proud of girls at foundation summer camp

Eighty girls from schools all over Fermanagh took part in the camp at St. Fanchea’s this week and were treated to visits from Mickey Harte, the Fermanagh Rose and the Fermanagh ladies and men’s gaelic football teams.

“It is a really fun and inspiring week,” commented Enniskillen summer camp co-ordinator Donna McCarron. “There was great excitement and hype on Tuesday when Mickey Harte arrived and he was so thankful and appreciative of the all volunteers who are helping out.

“It was also great to see the young girls so animated and full of questions for the Fermanagh Ladies team. Many of the campettes play gaelic and they were asking the players about their diet and fitness regime,” said Donna.

The aim of the Michaela Foundation Summer Camp is to provide an enriching and welcoming environment full of fun. It has a high ratio of voluntary leaders to campettes, ensuring that high levels of support are provided for the campettes. It also means that the girls will time with leaders to talk about all the things that make them happy or any worries that they may have.

The fashion element allows campettes to unleash their originality and creative potential. The faith element allows the girls to truly celebrate being themselves, and think about the importance of leading a meaningful life.

Fun is incorporated through song and dance and the well-being element aims to help Campettes develop a positive and can-do attitude.

The Fáilte element is designed to introduce the girls to aspects of their Irish culture.
