Greatly enjoying her reign as the Maid of Lough Erne during this year’s Kesh Carnival is local teenager Molly Parkinson.

Her name was unveiled during the Strictly at the Movies event - much to the surprise of her mother Jill Parkinson, who was one of the dancers at the successful event.

The young Kesh woman, who is enjoying attending events during the ongoing carnival, confessed her selection came very much as a surprise.

She revealed that she was on holiday when she got a telephone call from Robert Anderson, Carnival Organiser, to tell her that she had been chosen.

She spoke of her surprise on receiving the call and says she initially thought that he was looking for her mum as a Strictly dancer.

She admits the only person that she told was her sister Abbie, who helped her get organised.

She said she did not tell her mum Jill, who was dancing at the opening night Strictly event, and she says that she got a really big shock when she heard the announcement.

“She could not believe it,” said Molly, who added that her mum was delighted.

Molly, herself, was one of the four judges at the Strictly evening.

She said this week that performing the role of the Maid of Glendurragh has been great and it is proving “very enjoyable.”

It is also proving a busy role for the teenager with so many activities and attractions taking place during the popular Kesh Carnival.

More excitement lies ahead next week for Molly, aged 18, who recently completed her A level exams in maths, German and history at Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, and is awaiting her examination results.

A well known member of the local community, she has a part time job in Loane Transport, Kesh.
