A 25-YEAR-OLD man suspected of “actively dealing” in controlled drugs and psychoactive substances in the Fermanagh area has been ordered to stay out of the county while the case against him is ongoing.

Connor Anthony Logan, whose address was given as Drumbeg, Enniskillen, is charged with possession of a psychoactive substance with intent to supply on June 3, 2017.

Logan had been serving time on remand in custody since his arrest, apart from a week in July when he was released on compassionate bail after the birth of his first child.

He appeared before Fermanagh Magistrates Court on Monday, via videolink from Maghaberry prison, for a fresh bail application in his case.

A Public Prosecution Service (PPS) representative told the court that, at 10.30pm on June 3, police searched an address in Enniskillen where the defendant was living alone under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

As officers entered the property they observed Logan using his mobile phone, which was seized. It contained a text message asking for a “bag of yellows”.

Police took a screen grab of this message before switched off the phone, the court heard.

Upon searching the property, officers found a large bag, suspected of containing the psychoactive substance known as ‘Spice’, on the defendant’s bed.

The estimated street value of the amount seized was around £2,000, the court was told.

They also uncovered a number of clean, clear bags and a set of scales believed to be used in drug dealing.

During a subsequent interview, Logan denied all knowledge of the alleged psychoactive substance.

A PSNI officer told the court that police were concerned that the defendant would be likely to re-offend if released from custody.

She said that Logan had been on police bail when earlier drug searches had been carried out at an address where he had been living in March of this year.

Substances seized during these searches had been sent off for analysis, she told the court.

The policewoman revealed that Logan was suspected by police of “actively dealing” controlled drugs and psychoactive substances in the Fermanagh area.
She also said that the defendant had allegedly spat at a manager of a pub in Enniskillen. This incident was still being investigated, she added.

After hearing that the defendant had secured an agreed address at a hostel in Londonderry, district judge Nigel Broderick observed that, not without some hesitation, he would release him on bail, subject to strict conditions.

The judge told the court that Logan had honoured the conditions of his compassionate bail in July.

Mr. Broderick added that the address outside Fermanagh “should address concerns” over possible further offending.

He released the defendant on his own bail of £500 to appear before Fermanagh Magistrates Court again on Monday, September 4.

Under the terms of the bail, Logan must reside at the hostel in Londonderry, wear an electronic tag, observe a curfew and stay out of Fermanagh.

The judge warned the defendant that it had been a “very finely balanced” application and any breaches of the onerous conditions would result in his arrest.
