Last Friday, August 11 “will sadly be remembered in Irvinestown” when two of the town’s popular figures passed away.
A member of the community paid tribute this week to George Noble and to Jack Daly, whose funeral services were both held on Sunday.
The spokesman acknowledged that for years George “was the hard working Town Orderly” with Fermanagh District Council, whom he said “ensured that the town was kept in meticulous condition.”
He added: “He was noted for his great attention to detail and contributed to the town’s success in the Ulster Tidy Towns’ Competition. A great lover of dogs George, aged 99 and a half years, took a great interest in the Bawnacre visiting the Centre almost every day looking over the grounds for any improper use and lost property.”
The spokesman continued: “Constable Jack Daly who served in the RUC in Irvinestown from October 1960 until November 1984 was highly respected for his work especially with families in rural areas for which he was also the Rural Census Enumerator. He could always be relied upon to help local families in sad and tragic times. When he retired he received a letter from the then Chief Constable Sir Jack Hermon that his conduct had been exemplary.”
The spokesman concluded: “Both George and Jack made a significant, substantial and sustained contribution to improving the quality of life in and around Irvinestown. They will be greatly missed and sympathy is extended to their respective family circles at this sad time.”
The funeral service for George Noble was held on Sunday afternoon in Derryvullen North Parish Church, Irvinestown, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Beatrice and dear father of Francis, Audrey and Kathleen.
