DESPITE a busy schedule calling him away to Dublin on Sunday after performing at the BBC NI Proms in the Park at Castle Coole on Saturday night, world renowned flautist Sir James Galway still found time to meet with members of Fermanagh Concert Band at the weekend as proud patron of the local wind and brass ensemble.
Sir James became a patron for the local band in 2002.
Their other patron is John Wallace, trumpet soloist and leader of brass ensemble The Wallace Collection.
During his meeting with some of the members, Sir James said he was pleased to support the band:
“As a young lad growing up in Belfast I played in several bands and I cannot tell you how much fun this was not only for the players but also for the public who enjoyed our performances,” he said before adding.
“In a similar way, Fermanagh Concert Band are sounding a community chord through their music making.
“Whether you join them or listen to them, you’ll find they play your tune; and I am very pleased to support their activities by being their patron.”
The 2017/18 season has only just begun, but Fermanagh Concert Band already have a number of gigs in the pipeline, not to mention some social events which should combine fundraising with almost as much fun as the music.
They will perform at Enniskillen Castle on Friday, September 22, from 7pm until 8pm and Sunday, September 24, from 4pm until 5.30pm.
Anyone wishing to become a new member should contact Fermanagh Concert Band via the website, www.fermanaghconcertband.org.
Alternatively, you could speak to a band member at the Castle.
