Congratulations to Fine Point Films, particularly director Eimhear O’Neill for the film shown on BBC on Monday evening “Wave Goodbye to Dinosaurs”.
The film recalls the contribution made by the emergence of the Women’s Coalition a couple of decades ago. As well as providing some pertinent context to the issues of the day, and indeed today, it charts the valuable role played by so many women from a varied range of backgrounds to encouraging dialogue.
I recall throughout my time in journalism even before the Good Friday Agreement of 1998, how women played such a leading role in holding society together here during our awful conflict.
A couple of thoughts struck me watching the film; after such a positive atmosphere in 1998, how did we slip so far back into negativity. And how much do we need the foresight, courage and positivity of today of many of the women who spoke in the programme.
I agree with the tweet from Patricia MacBride, who wrote on Twitter: “Ok, who else thinks we should hand the keys of Stormont to Bernadette McAliskey and May Blood?
