A EXHIBITION of finely-executed textiles is on display in an Enniskillen cafe as part of the lead-up to this year’s Fermanagh Live Arts Festival.

The solo show by Jenni McGrail, called ‘Thread Softly Through Memories’, can be found in the intimate space of The Jolly Sandwich.

It is one of a number of exhibitions that are on display locally ahead of the 2017 Fermanagh Live, which is taking place from Wednesday, October 4 to Sunday, October 8.

Now in its 10th year, Fermanagh Live has a vibrant, dynamic and engaging visual and performing arts programme, with film, moving image, drama, comedy and music from across all genres and much more.

There will also be masterclasses, workshops and illustrated talks.

Enniskillen actor, Ciaran McMenamin, will be involved with three events.

First up, on Wednesday, October 4, he will be coming to Fermanagh House for a talk and ‘Q&A’ session after a screening of his film, Jump.

Hosted by Fermanagh Film Club, this will begin at 8pm.

Then, at 8pm on Friday, October 6, the Buttermarket is the venue for readings from his acclaimed debut novel, followed by another ‘Q&A’.

Friday night will be rounded off with a special Skintown disco at Level 7 at Blakes of the Hollow. Starting from 11pm, DJ X-Ray will be playing the music that inspired the Fermanagh man’s first foray into fiction.

Multi-talented Irish singer-songwriter Jack Lukeman, also known as Jack L, will be performing his new show at The Ardhowen Theatre in Enniskillen as part of this year’s event.

His powerfully expressive vocals have been compared to such disparate types as David Bowie, Tom Waits, and Frank Sinatra.

He will be taking to the stage at the lakeside arts venue on Saturday, October 7, starting at 8pm.

A world-renowned classical musician is back at this year’s Fermanagh Live Arts Festival by popular demand.

Barry Douglas will be performing well-known pieces by Schubert and Brahms, as well as the famous ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ by Mussorgsky.

The classical pianist and conductor will also no doubt delight his audience with a little taste of traditional Irish melody when he plays in St. Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen on Sunday, October 8, starting at 4pm.

Noelle McAlinden, chair of Fermanagh Live Arts Festival, said: “Fermanagh has much to offer - the landscape, the waterways, the history, heritage and architecture, as well as the talents and creativity of the people. We want to continue to celebrate and showcase the cultural assets and the talent of this unique county and island town, the people and this place. We want to provide a platform for both emerging as well as internationally renowned artists.”
