A BOGUS caller wearing a Fermanagh District Council identification badge has been visiting households in the Enniskillen area purporting to collect money for charitable work in another country, it has emerged.
A spokesperson for Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is advising members of the public that the local authority never collects money for charity in this manner, nor has it authorised a third party to do so on its behalf.
The spokesperson said: “Any contact the Council makes with the public in relation to Council services will be through personal contact by authorised staff who will have Council-issued identification.
“If anyone is not fully satisfied that the ID is genuine, or requires reassurance regarding the authenticity of a caller, they should make immediate contact with the Council on 0300 303 1777 to verify the caller’s details.”
She added: “If anyone has recently been approached in a similar manner they should report it immediately to the PSNI on the non-emergency telephone number 101.”
