THE chief executive of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council says the organisation will begin preparing Brexit by carrying out an assessment to identify “the range of issues.”
It comes following a letter sent to Brendan Hegarty by the Northern Ireland Office suggesting that the Council should ensure impacts, potential opportunities and contingency planning is explored.
“We are being asked to go into it blind,” said Sinn Fein’s Barry Doherty. “A lot of it is so open ended, how could you begin to plan for it?” he asked.
“My intention is to work with my senior team... to try and identify the range of issues,” Mr. Hegarty said.
“There seems to be no leadership,” said SDLP’s Brendan Gallagher. “It’s left with each Council to come up with a document.”
“This is an immense task but we do have to do it,” said Mr. Hegarty.
