A blocked sewer which caused a foul smell close to the gates of Enniskillen Royal Grammar School on Monday has been repaired by Northern Ireland Water.

A spokeswoman for the company told The Impartial Reporter: “NI Water has been dealing with a blocked trunk sewer in the Derrygonnelly Road area of Enniskillen. The problem was temporarily resolved by the use of high pressure jetting equipment which partially removed the blockage on the afternoon of Monday, February 5.”

She added that tankers were brought in on Monday night “to relieve the sewer, until repair crews could attend on Tuesday morning to excavate the site and repair the defect.”

The spokeswoman thanked customers in the area for their patience while the emergency work was carried out and added: “We would like to take this opportunity to encourage customers to help us keep the sewers running freely by not flushing inappropriate items down the toilet. These include wet wipes (including flushable) cotton buds and sanitary items – the advice is simple, bag it and bin it.”
