A CRASH near Killadeas involving an articulated lorry and a jeep and trailer carrying sheep on Tuesday morning resulted in an oil spilling into a small waterway.
In a statement, a spokesman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said: “Officers attended along with other members of the emergency services. One driver was uninjured and the other was taken to hospital by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service for treatment to what are believed to be minor injuries. A number of sheep that were being transported in the trailer were uninjured in the incident.
The Northern Ireland Environment Agency received a call via the water pollution hotline from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, said a spokesman for the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development.
“NIEA sent an officer to investigate the incident and noticed some loss of oil to a small waterway running under the lorry.
“Absorbent materials were deployed in a drain just downstream of the lorry and further checks were made downstream where this small drain crosses the road to the larger waterway;.
“No oil was observed in the larger waterway. The situation is being monitored to protect the water environment,” the spokesman told this newspaper.
