A FERMANAGH woman is fundraising for a Himalayan Trek in aid of a cat protection charity by holding a series of events locally, starting this Saturday.

Confirmed cat lover, Marie Holmes, from Enniskillen, will be undertaking a Himalayan Trek and Tiger Conservation Experience to raise money on behalf of Cat’s Protection, and specifically for the Belfast Adoption Centre, in October this year.

In order to fundraise for the trek, she is holding a series of events, including a Kitty Kat coffee morning and photo competition at the Cathedral Hall, Enniskillen this Saturday from 10am to noon. The photo competition is, naturally, cat inspired and is open to all amateur photographers – bring your favourite cat photograph and enter it for an opportunity to win a cash prize. There will be two categories of entry – one for under 16s and one for adults so everyone has a chance to win.

Marie said: “My family have had cats since I was a young child. My decision to go on the Himalayan Trek was inspired by my visit to the Belfast Adoption Centre where I sponsor a cat that needs a home and from where, last summer, my parents adopted two delightful black and white kittens – Milo and Felix. I saw the trek advertised on the shelter’s Facebook page and, after weeks of trying to make my mind up, I decided to take part, as I have seen the great work that the charity does for homeless cats and kittens, and realised that I wanted to play a part in helping them to do this. I hope people will support the coffee morning and my other events.”
