TWO women in their 20s have managed to escape from the car they were in moments before it ended up in Lough Erne.

The incident on the Boa Island Road, outside Belleek, last night (Monday) was attended by both the ambulance and fire service.

A spokeswoman for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters from Belleek and Irvinestown attended the scene in the Tullyfad area at about 9.20pm.

“Two women in their 20s were out of the car prior to the arrival of fire crews and were treated at the scene by ambulance personnel for shock.

“Firefighters secured the car in place,” she said.

Both passengers had “evacuated the car and were at the harbour” said a spokeswoman for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

Two rapid response vehicle paramedics and one emergency ambulance crew were dispatched to the incident.

“Following assessment and treatment at the scene by paramedics, no one required transport to hospital,” said the spokeswoman.

The incident was dealt with at 10.12pm.
