YOU may have seen Deadpool and Black Widow at Enniskillen Castle on Saturday, or the Power Rangers at the Library or even various Star Wars, Disney and other comic characters around the town.

That can only mean one thing - the Enniskillen ComicFest is getting close!

ComicFest returns for its third year to Enniskillen on May 11 and 12, bringing the world of comic books and superheroes to the town to celebrate sequential art and storytelling.

Following the programme of previous years, there will be workshops aimed at students running in Enniskillen Library on Friday, May 11 and then Saturday, May 12 will be the main convention day for the public.

This year the venue is St Macartin’s Cathedral Hall which has recently been renovated and extended.

On May 12, it will be packed with comic creators, both professional and self-published, merchandise and comics will be on sale and there will be plenty of cosplayers bringing to life your favourite characters.

Among the guests this year is hugely-popular writer Dan Abnett, who has hundreds of comic stories and dozens of novels to his name.

Dan has written for 2000 AD, both DC and Marvel, where he launched the Guardians Of The Galaxy series that inspired the blockbuster film, and over 50 novels in the Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 range as well as Doctor Who.

On the evening of Friday, May 11 there will be a special writers round table discussion with Dan and some of the artists who’ve worked with him in Blakes the Hollow.

Tickets for this special event can be ordered through the Enniskillen ComicFest Facebook page.

The festival will also welcome a superstar artist known as Jock, whose distinctive art style can be seen in Judge Dredd, Batman, Green Arrow and Wolverine.

He has also contributed concept art and storyboards to a number of films and promotional campaigns, most recently for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Mike Collins has drawn Superman, Batman, the Flash, Wonder Woman and the Justice League for DC as well as working on licensed properties.

He is also one of the storyboard artists for Doctor Who.

One of the guests even has local connections! Actress Jessica Martin, who over the past five years has created a number of award-winning comics stories and graphic novels, has family living in the area.

Her mother was a native of Ederney before moving to London and Jessica can remember visiting Enniskillen many times while back over for family holidays.

These are just a few of the 23 guests from across Ireland and the UK who will be appearing at ComicFest.

There will be plenty to see and do at ComicFest, no matter what age you are.

There will be a special Kid’s Zone with lots of activities going on as well as panel discussions and interviews for those wanting to know more about the characters and their creators.

Admission is just £5 and under 12s get in free when accompanied by an adult.

This covers admission to both ComicFest in the Cathedral Hall and the various panels being held in the Library.

Full details of the programme of events will be posted on the Enniskillen ComicFest Facebook page. The organisers would like to thank the Arts Council of NI, Fermanagh & Omagh District Council, Fermanagh Lakeland Tourism, Enniskillen Library, Enniskillen BID and Blakes of the Hollow for their support.
