It will be a long trek on a bus, but diehard Liverpool fan Shane Mulligan is hoping that will be all worthwhile as the Reds go in search of Champions’ League victory when they take on the mighty Real Madrid at the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex in Kiev, Ukraine.
There has been well documented problems for Liverpool supporters getting to the game and getting accommodation but that won’t stop lifelong ‘Pool fan Shane making the journey.
“I’m going with a group of friends who I would go to a lot of away games with. With have hired a 52 seater coach and we will be leaving Liverpool on Thursday for a 30 plus hour trip,” he said.
That trip will see Enniskillen man Shane, who got his love for the club from his father, Jack, meet up with the rest of the group in Liverpool and they will then make their way to the South of England to get the boat to Dunkirk. From there it will be on to Berlin in Germany before they make their way to Krakow in Poland. And the final leg of the trip will see the group leave Krakow to head to Kiev for the game.
“It is 1978 miles and it’s going to take 36 hours to get there but I have my ticket for the game and it doesn’t matter how we get there. Liverpool is a club like no other, I can’t wait and the trip is all part of it. It will be 52 diehard Liverpool fans who are all good friends going to a Champions League final,” he added.
This will be Shane’s 16th time to watch Liverpool this season and has already seen the away to Manchester City and Roma in the Champions’ League and he is hoping that they complete the job on Saturday night.
“I think that they will win, I’m predicting a 3-1 Liverpool win.”
And he will be looking to mark any Liverpool victory by adding the final touches to a sleeve tattoo on his left arm.
“I have left a wee space for 2018 to be added along with the years of all the other Liverpool European Cup wins,” he smiled.
There will also be a bit of a stop over on the way home for Shane as a long trip will end with a stag do in Budapest.
“I’ll leave the rest of the lads in Berlin and then I’m going to meet up with my good friend Ryan Hanna for his stag in Budapest. It’s going to be a very few days!”
