THE 42-year-old agricultural sales manager who was killed in a road traffic collision (RTC) on the A4 Belfast Road, Brookeborough on Friday, was laid to rest in Ballyrashane on Tuesday this week.
Father of three Wilson Atchison, from Coleraine was killed when the car he was travelling in collided with a lorry on the A4 on Friday morning.
He was a highly regarded sales manager for Stephen Moore Farm Machinery.
Erne East councillor, Victor Warrington said the road had been raised by local elected representatives “several times” with the Department of Infrastructure as a result of the number of RTCs that have occurred on the A4 over the years.
“It is unfortunately a stretch of road that has seen numerous fatalities over the years,” he said.
“What exactly happened on Friday is not yet known, but what matters is that another life has been lost.
“He was someone’s son, a brother, a father and a husband - another individual who has lost their life on our roads, and that is very sad indeed.”
A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said they were alerted to the RTC at around 8.35am on Friday.
“NIAS despatched a Rapid Response Paramedic and an A&E crew to the scene. The Charity Air Ambulance was also tasked to the incident.
“No patients were taken from the scene,” added the spokesperson.
Police are meanwhile investigating the fatal collision and have appealed for witnesses.
They keen to hear from anyone who was travelling on the Belfast Road at around the time of the collision and who may have witnessed the crash or captured dashcam footage that could assist the investigation.
The Collision Investigation Unit can be contacted by calling 101, quoting reference number 251 08/06/18.
Mr. Atchison is survived by his wife Nichelle, children Rachel, Molly and Evie and his wider family circle.
