RESIDENTS in the Kilmacormick and Hillview areas of Enniskillen have been left terrified after spotting rats scurrying outside their homes, a Sinn Fein Councillor has claimed.
Debbie Coyle speculated at Tuesday night’s meeting of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council that the issue of vermin stemmed from a nearby waste ground and has been an issue for a number of years. She asked for a report to be presented to the next Environmental Services Committee.
Yesterday (Wednesday) Councillor Coyle said the matter is “extremely serious.”
“People have been dumping their rubbish on this waste ground, which is privately owned, and as a result rats have been sighted running around the housing areas.
“Nobody wants to wake up in the morning or go home in the evening and come face to face with a rat, nobody wants rats peeing over kids’ toys in the garden,” she told The Impartial Reporter.
Councillor Coyle says residents have spotted rats several times, particularly in the last few months.
“Rats have been seen coming into the estate, close to the front and back doors of homes, many, many times and that is a real concern of mine.
“The people who have contacted our office say they just want to feel safe. There is a kind of uncleanness there, it is vermin and it is dangerous,” said Councillor Coyle.
