Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has launched new jute shopping bags, displaying the message ‘Shop Local Enniskillen’ as part of an economic development initiative to maximise and promote the district’s two principal centres of commerce.

The reusable bags will be distributed at Council-led and supported town centre events.

Commenting on the new initiative, Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Howard Thornton said the bags have been designed to encourage people to ‘shop local’ and support local business.

“In an age where online shopping is increasing, it is now more important than ever to support our town centres and the local businesses within them. Enniskillen and Omagh both offer unique retail and hospitality venues and our local businesses make a significant contribution to the economic life of our district. The jute bags provide a visual message of encouragement to shop local which is a message the Council is very keen to promote.”

The jute bags have been distributed at a number of town centre events recently including the Food Festival in Omagh and Operation Elsewhere in Enniskillen and will be available at future town centre events while stocks last.
