Arlene Foster has turned down an invitation to attend an address in Dublin on Saturday by Pope Francis because she is away

The DUP leader was invited to attend Dublin Castle, however a statement released today by the DUP says she is unable to attend.

The statement said: “Mrs Foster has received an invitation from the Republic of Ireland’s government to an address by Pope Francis in Dublin Castle on Saturday 25th August. Mrs Foster appreciates the invitation but regretfully will be away with her family at that time. She particularly acknowledges the significance of this event for many Roman Catholics in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.”

Earleir in the summer, Mrs Foster attended her first GAA match in Clones when her home county Fermanagh played Donegal in the Ulster Championship final.
