The road in Bundoran where a crash in the early hours of Sunday morning claimed the lives of two young people, has reopened according to a Garda spokesperson. 

The spokesperson also confirmed that, despite reports in some sections of the media, two people not three have lost their lives in the horror crash.

It is believed the victims of a road crash were from the County Fermanagh area.

A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the road crash in Co Donegal this morning which left two people dead and four others seriously injured. 

DUP Councillor for Erne North, Raymond Farrell says the thoughts of everyone are with the families of those involved: "Words really fail at a time like this as we think of the sudden death and critical state of everyone involved in this horrific accident. Amidst carnage, wreckage and broken bodies there are the broken and distressed hearts of the families of everyone concerned. Our hearts and our prayers go out to everyone involved in these heartbreaking days."

The crash happened at East End in Bundoran at around 3.25am this morning.

A man and woman, both in their 20s, died when the blue Peugeot 306 car they were travelling in hit a wall.

Another woman in her 20s is in a critical condition, while three other men, also in their 20s, suffered serious injuries following the crash.

All were brought to Sligo General Hospital, more than 40km away.

The incident happened close to a dangerous bend in a built-up part of the East End area of the town.

Fire Service personnel and gardaí were quickly at the scene and the injured were rushed to Sligo University Hospital, 40km away.
