Multi-talented Fermanagh-based artist Michael Brown is showing his solo exhibition ‘Fermanagh Landscapes’ in the foyer of the South West Acute Hospital (SWAH) this autumn. The exhibition is presented by the Fermanagh Live Arts Festival and The Devenish Gallery in partnership with SWAH and Fermanagh Omagh District Council.

With a focus on landscapes, Michael works in the post-impressionist tradition to create contemporary pieces of art. He draws his inspiration from many natural sources ranging from loughs and wetlands, to woodland and farmland to bogs and mountain uplands. The upcoming exhibition ‘Fermanagh Landscapes’ will show a collection of oil paintings and original one-off monotypes, a style of printmaking that Michael is renowned for.

Displayed on boards in the public setting of the South West Acute Hospital, Michael’s colourful works will be on view to a wider audience beyond that of a traditional gallery. Colin Burns, owner of the Devenish Gallery, remarked that the use of the hospital foyer as an exhibition space would highlight the connection between art and wellbeing.

The exhibition will officially open on Thursday September 6 at 6pm with a welcome from Professor Ronan O’Hare. An address led by Lord Belmore will follow. He says, “My theme will be the great and worthy tradition of artists' interpretation of landscapes in Ireland, from Souter to Flanagan, and Blackshaw to Denaro. Each one a genius, a recorder of place.”

‘Fermanagh Landscapes’ by Michael Brown will exhibit in the hospital’s main foyer until October 31. The original artworks on display will be available to purchase through the Devenish Gallery along with a selection of affordable art posters. Michael also facilitates various workshops in partnership with the Devenish Gallery, where participants will be shown new techniques that will allow them to produce their own unique piece of art to take away. Michael continues to gain a strong reputation in the art world and has recently had work selected for the prestigious Royal Ulster Academy exhibition which will be hosted in the Ulster Museum, Belfast from October 18.
