THIS morning 's 25th anniversary of the Enniskillen bomb will be marked by families of the bereaved and injured publicly and privately.

The IRA bombing at Enniskillen on November 8, 1987 shocked the world when 11 people died, 63 were injured and a 12th man. Ronnie Hill, died after years of being in a coma.

It was one of the iconic images of the Troubles, and this week there has been a heavy media presence back in the town to recall one of Northern Ireland's darkest days.

At 10am a service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance will take place at the Cenotaph in Belmore Street and then at 10.43am, exactly 25 years since the bomb exploded, a minute's silence will be observed.

The bells will ring at St. Macartin's Cathedral to mark the end of the act of remembrance and during the service, chaired by Mr. Austin Hunter, there will be a reading by a church minister plus hymns, an address and a wreath laying ceremony.

At 11.30am a Church service in St. Macartin's Cathedral has been arranged by families of the bereaved. First Minister Peter Robinson and the new Northern Ireland Secretary Theresa Villiers are just some of the dignitaries expected to attend.

The people who died included: Wesley Armstrong, a 62-year-old British Telecom engineer from Chanterhill, and his 55-year-old wife, Bertha lost their lives. As did Ted Armstrong, who was 52 and from Derrychara. He was a full-time Reserve policeman who was off duty. 49-year-old Sammy Gault, a retired RUC Sergeant of Benaughlin Park was killed. William Mullan, then 74, a chemist in Darling Street, died alongside his wife, Nessie Mullan, 73.

Kit Johnston, a 71-year-old retired ambulance driver, and his 62-year-old wife, Jessie, a retired nurse perished in the bomb.

The youngest victim was 20-year-old nurse Marie Wilson, the daughter of Joan and Gordon Wilson, a local draper who was with his daughter when she died. Another retired nurse, Georgina Quinton, 72 from Killyvilly and local evangelist, 68-year-old Johnny Megaw also lost their lives. A 12th person, Enniskillen High School Headmaster Ronnie Hill, died after lying for 13 years in a coma.
