A major beef event, the first of its kind in Northern Ireland takes place on Saturday, November 14 at the former RUAS Balmoral Show venue in Belfast.

The inaugural Northern Ireland Beef Event, Beef NI Expo and Pedigree Calf Fair, brings together the best on offer for beef producers and showcases all 10 main breed societies.

There will be seminars as well as trade stands from companies involved in the livestock industry.

Throughout the day, the seminars will consider the way forward for the beef industry working in partnership with the Livestock and Meat Commission and National Beef Association.

The theme for the event is “Beef Strategy 2020”.

David Connolly, speaking on behalf of the 20-member committee, said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to bring together the very best that Northern Ireland has to offer and promote the beef industry we are delighted witht he positive response from sponsors.” Regarding trade space, he said they were delighted that at the time of the launch, 60 per cent of the trade space was filled and they were excited by this response and looked forward to welcoming businesses and visitors to this new event.

Chris Mallon, Chairman of the NBA and Expo Partner said: “There is strength in numbers. This is giving us the forum to have useful discussions about the future of our beef business, with a number of seminars to be hosted throughout the day, which will be themed: “Beef Strategy 2020. It is essential to work together to showcase the wonderful beef industry we have in Northern Ireland and we are expecting visitors on the day from across the UK.” The Beef NI Expo will also provide the oportunity to display some of the finest genetics from top herds across Northern Ireland at the Pedigree Calf Fair. Pedigree Beef Show classes are being arranged for Aberdeen Angus, British Blue, British Blonde, Beef Shorthorn, Charolais, Hereford, Irish Moiled, Limousin, Salers and Simmental calves born from September 1 2014.

First prizewinners go on to compete for the accolade of champion in breed.

As a first for Northern Ireland, it is the first show where 10 major beef breeds will come together to showcase all that is on offer in the region.

The event will also focus on the next generation of beef farmers with a Young Showmanship Competition, attracting interest from young people across the Province who continue to develop and grow their ability to promote their livestock.

Judging begins at 10am culminating with the grand parade of champions at 4pm.
