Showjumping and major championships for livestock featured at Omagh Show

Omagh Show on Saturday next, July 4 will be one of the first agricultural shows in the west of the Province where local exhibitors will have the opportunity to try to rosettes and silverware.

At a recent launch of the event, a wide range of livestock classes and entertainment will feature on the day.

However as in previous years, this will be a two-day event, the Friday, July 3 being an equestrian day where some of the top riders in showjumping will be competing for a lucrative prize fund.

Omagh Show was the first venue in Northern Ireland to attract a Horse Sport Ireland qualifier when it was introduced last year. This was a major success as Horse Sport Ireland is continuing with these qualifiers this year and has invested £9000 in the event. Completing the excitement on the Friday of the Show will be the qualifiers for the two Horse Sport Ireland Competitions - 5-yr-old and 6/7-yr-old horses, with the two finals on the Saturday.

Friday will also have classes for 1.00m, 1.10m and 1.20m in addition to a speed class and a full programme of Pony Jumping with unregistered ponies at 10.00 am and competitions for registered at 11.00 am.

Saturday will see two finals for Horse Sport Ireland competitions, which are part of the Irish Sport Horse Studbook Show Jumping Series 2009.

To maintain the excitement and momentum the 1.30m Eddie McGinn Memorial Horse Speed Event sponsored by the McGinn Family, Killyclogher, Omagh will follow this.

The ponies will compete in eight different classes for registered ponies commencing with a 128 80cm class and reaching a 148 1.10m class in addition to an under 8 60cm Discovery League Class. The 148 1.10m class is being sponsored by Omagh Equestrian & Country Wear. This year there are two new mini Championships: 1 Lead Rein and First Ridden Classes 2: Ridden Classes

There is also a new Championship for the champion Connemara of the Show either ridden or in hand in addition to the Allbed NI Ridden Connemara Championship 2009.

Omagh Show will host the following Irish Shows Association Qualifiers:

DSL Costal Properties Show Young Stock Championship

Connemara Yearling Gelding All Ireland Championship

Connemara Two Year Old Filly All Ireland Championship

The Murnane & O"Shea Three Year Old Filly All Ireland Championship

The Traditional Irish Sport Horse Foal All Ireland Championship

The Red Mills Non-Thoroughbred Two Year Old All Ireland Championship

The A Brown Filly Foal All Ireland Championship

The Gain Colt Foal All Ireland Championship

The Premier Series Show Jumping Grand Prix will take place on the Friday this year with a three round competition. There will be keen competition for the 12,000 euro prize fund. Omagh Show is delighted to welcome a new sponsor Dillon Bass this year for the Show Jumping Ireland Powers Gold Label Premier Series Show Jumping Grand Prix.

The Show is also indebted to further local sponsors Dillon Bass, First Trust Bank and the Silverbirch Hotel.

The McGinn Family, Omagh are continuing with their generous sponsorship for the Eddie McGinn Memorial Horse Speed Event. This event has now run for two years and has been a resounding success, which adds to the attraction of the Equestrian Section.

With the main agricultural day being Saturday, July 4, the dairy section again includes qualifiers for two very important Dairy Cow Championships - McLarnons Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Championship 2009, and the 'Semex Dairy Cow of the Year.'

There is also the Champion Interbreed Dairy Cow of the Show sponsored by Scotts Feeds, Omagh, while the Holstein champion will be sponsored by TMC Dairies(NI) Ltd and the Ayrshire champion by John Thompson and Sons Ltd. The special confined class for animals form Co.Tyrone ahs a new sponsor this year - Buchanan Fuels, Omagh.

Beef - The list of qualifiers in the beef section at Omagh Show includes the Ulster Bank/NISA Pedigree Beef Cow Championship 2009, Dectomax Charolais Championship, Simmental 'Ivomec Super' Simmental Pair of The Year, Limousin Qualifying Show for the All Ireland Bull and Heifer Derby, Ulster Bank Limousin Heifer Derby, Northern Bank Limousin 'Show Team' of The Year, Ulster Bank/Commercial Cattle Club Suckler Heifer Championship, British Blue ISA Young Bull Championship and the Rare Breed Qualifier for the Rare Breeds Cattle Derby.

Young exhibitors will also get an opportunity to show their skills with the Young Handlers Classes for Dairy Breeds sponsored by the Dunn Family and Beef Breeds sponsored by the Armstrong Family.

Sheep - Omagh Show boasts one of the largest entries of sheep at a show in Northern Ireland and this year will include qualifiers for the Northern Bank/NISA Sheep Championship 2009, Cydectin Young Handlers Competition, ISA/Clogher Valley Agricultural Society NI Continental Sheep Final, the Rouge De L"Quest Show Flock of the Year and the Tesco Rare Breeds Sheep Derby.

This year the section will have a new championship in the Interbreed Ewe Lamb championship sponsored by John Thompson and Sons Ltd.

The Suffolk Sheep Society will hold their championships, sponsored by Northern Bank and Pfizer Animal Health as well as their Stock Judging Competition.

Harkin Bros., Loughash, Donemana are sponsoring a special prize for the best pair of lambs, one ram and one ewe, in the Blackface Mountain Perth Type Classes and also in the Blackface Mountain Lanark Type Classes.

Goats - In the Goat section Alltec is presenting a new cup for the Champion Goatling of Showwhile the A E Duncan Perpetual Cup will be awarded to the Champion Goat. A special Prize of £50, kindly presented by Mr R Beattie, Gortin and Lisahally Marts, will be presented to the best animal shown by a first time exhibitor at the show.

After all the champions have been selected there is a grand finale where all of the champions will vie for a place in the Champion of Champions and will share in the £500 prize money donated by Tyrone Farming Society.

A dog show and home industries will also be featured on the Saturday.
