All livestock farmers will benefit from the next open meeting of Fermanagh Grassland Club which takes place next Tuesday evening, March 9 in the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen.
Sponsored by the Vaughan Trust, the meeting will be addressed by Justin McCarthy, Livestock Editor of the Irish Farmers' Journal. While the majority of his examples and experiences will be drawn from his work with the "Better Farms" Programme, Justin's presentation, "Developing Your Farm Into A Profitable Business" will contain relevant messages for any agricultural business.
Justin has held the position as Livestock Editor with the Irish Farmers Journal since August 2005. Having graduated with a Hons. Degree in Agricultural Science in 2000, McCarthy spent almost two years working with Anglo Beef Processors (ABP) in Shrewsbury. In 2004 he was awarded a Nuffield Farming Scholarship and travelled throughout Europe and New Zealand researching Profitable Beef Production from the Suckler Herd. On completion of his Scholarship he took up the role as Beef Specialist with Teagasc. During his time with Teagasc he coordinated the Teagasc/Dawn Meats Partnership in the West of Ireland.
McCarthy has built up a reputation for being able to significantly improve profitability on any beef farms that have come under his guidance.
Since joining the Irish Farmers Journal he has travelled extensively throughout Europe and South America. His reports on Brazilian beef production have been well documented both in Ireland and across the EU political arena. In 2008 his articles claimed both national in international awards.
As this meeting is being sponsored by the Vaughan Trust it is open to all interested farmers.
