Some of the finest breeding of livestock and horses will be exhibited at next week's Clogher Valley Show, held at the playing fields at Augher on Wednesday, July 28.
With over 60 acres of showgrounds, thousands of people will be making their way to the South Tyrone village for the one-day event.
At a launch of Clogher Valley Show at the home of its vice-Chairman, Harrison Boyd, the Show Chairman, Mr. Nicholas Lowry, welcomed the Mayor of Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, Michelle O'Neill, representatives of sponosrs and other guests and outlined the new sponsors of awards this year.
He also revealed that judges would be travelling from England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland for the various classes and he added that this was the fifth year of hosting the Cydectin Charolais Championship.
He praised the support of Dungannon Council, for hosting a pre-Show dinner for judges and guests, for the building of a bridge over the River Blackwater and also extended his thanks to the many landowners who gave up their fields for the Show Day as well as the large team of stewards who ensured judging got underway on time.
He particularly thanked the Show Secretary, Ruth Montgomery, who is assisted by her husband, Philip, for making the Show the success it was.
He revealed that the vintage parade was back by popular demand and this year they would be raising funds for Marie Curie. More rails would be installed for tying cattle and this year, the Show would become an even better place to be.
New sponsors include Donnelly Motors, Dungannon for the overall commercial cattle championship and Woolsey Concrete also in the cattle section.
There are several new cups awarded this year.
The Silver Cup in memory of the late Lexie McLaren, Beragh, a long time stalwart of the cattle and sheep sections will be awarded for the best Aberdeen Angus junior female.
The Silver Cup will be represented for the Champion Blonde.
The Silver Cup presented by Mrs. Beryl Boyd will be awarded for the overall champion young handler in the beef section.
The Clogher Valley Show Silver Cup will be awarded to the champion young handler in the dairy section.
Two new cups will be presented to dog owners. Mrs. S. Scott, Irvinestown has presented a Silver Trophy for the overall champion dog and Mrs. Kath Turner of Clabby has presented a Silver Trophy for the best crossbred terrier.
In the home industries and schools section, Allan Montgomery Chartered Accountant Fivemiletown has presented a Silver Cup for the Best Dressed Scarecrow at the Show.
Trade exhibitors have been turning out in large numbers in recent years and this year is no exception. There will be special awards of Tyrone Crystal for the Best Trade stands, most attractive stand in the Food Hall and most outstanding trade stand in the Craft Marquee.
Spectators travelling to the Show have a choice of watching horse and pony showing and showjumping in Jack Johnston's field; sheep and goat showing, Food Hall, craft marquee, schoolchildren's and adults arts and crafts, floral and horticultural displays and home baking in Stephen Finlay's field with cattle showing in the playing field and dog showing alongside the trade exhibits in the football field.
A parade of prizewinners will take place at around 3pm in the cattle field.
The Clogher Valley Show is a day out for all the familyi and entertainment in the form of amusements and sideshows will be provided for children of all ages.
