There was a hive of activity around the Home Industries marquee at the Clogher Valley Show yesterday(Wednesday) as fantastic colours and fragrances greeted visitors.
With a good summer for flowers, fruit and vegetables, there were many high quality entries from exhibitors in Fermanagh, Tyrone and Armagh.
Some of the outstanding entries were in the home baking and floral art sections. Fivemiletown Women's Institute beat off stiff competition from neighbouring W.Is in Clogher and Fintona to win the "Victorian Afternoon Tea" class where members had to arrange a decorated cake, oven scones, a flower arrangement in a tea cup, confectionery comprising four home made items and a hand decorated recipe card.
Other outstanding exhibits in the Home Industries marquees included the Dressed Scarecrow with Hannah Griffin from Tyrone winning the Allan Montgomery Cup and first prize of £15.
Next door in the Augher Co-op Food Hall, there were plenty of appetising smells as various companies staged displays of their products and Paula McIntyre of BBC Radio Ulster presented cookery demonstrations of "Seasonal Cooking." Recipes included potato scones, leek soup, rump steak as well as chocolate brownies and orange roasted rhubarb.
Among the visitors to the Clogher Valley Show was the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Michelle Gildernew, who spent several hours watching the cattle judging in progress and meeting farmers and their families from various counties.
